2014 was an unusual year at The GLO, for the first time since opening our doors in April 2008 we had no volunteers due to the current security issues in the country. Whilst we missed the interaction with volunteers from all over the world, our Christmas celebrations were not compromised as Mike & Kay Flynn made their donation towards our celebratory dinner as they have done for the past three years. With nearly 70 children at the orphanage, 25 staff and their families coming to join us on Christmas Day it was very much appreciated.

We all prayed together before our Pre-teens staged an excellent version of The Nativity Story, then it was onto a wonderful lunch of Pilau & Soda followed by some very tasty cake. We were all in very high spirits as we continued to celebrate the birth of Jesus, we realised just how blessed we all are at The GLO.

Time to cut the cake

Thanks to the forward planning of Madam Mercy every single child got a Christmas present, this was no mean feat as no volunteers meant no suitcases from the UK during 2014 apart from a few that Papa Kevin & Mama Mary brought over throughout the year. After the giving of presents we all enjoyed an afternoon & evening of games & dancing, a great time was had by everyone!
