Whilst holidaying in Mombasa earlier this year, my wife Sue, my sister Mo Garrett and myself were fortunate enough to visit the GLO earlier this year. Mary very kindly met us at our hotel and during the drive to the orphanage explained how she and Kevin had become involved in setting up the Good Life Orphanage. From such a small begining, they have truly achieved so much, especially with the new school, what a chance for those children in the area who otherwise would have struggled for a decent education. I’m sure that just like every other visitor to the GLO, upon arrival we were greeted by the smiling, happy and contented children and were immediately captivated by them.
Colm, Sue & Mo visit the GLO
The GLO is everything we had hoped to see during our brief visit. The whole building complex and surroundings were kept spotless and the children were divided into various houses and were being taken care of by the wonderful staff. It was great to see the children interacting with each other and it was obvious that they were in a very happy environment.

Reading the blog, we have been so impressed by all those who have carried out fund raising activities and also those who have volunteered their services and expertise in assisting with the fantastic work carried out there and I congratulate you all.
Recently, Sue and I became grandparents for the very first time when our grandson Conor O’Shea arrived safe and well. We were also celebrating our 60th birthdays plus our 40th wedding anniversary and we decided it was time to party. Invites were sent out and our guests duly arrived at our local rugby Club here in South Wales to join in the fun on the 30th July.

We had requested that we really were not in need of any presents and that perhaps guests would consider making a small donation to a cause that remains close to our hearts, namely The Good Life Orphanage. Whilst some guests still gave us some lovely gifts, we also received donations that have been forwarded through ‘Just Giving’ to the GLO, and we know that it will be used wisely. We have made our friends aware of the GLO and, like ourselves, they are hugely impressed by all those involved in the success achieved so far. We will continue in our own small way to do what we can to raise the profile of the GLO, and hopefully we will be organising a fund raising event later in the year which will include an auction of sports memorabilia.

To our guests who attended our party, and read this blog, thank you for your donations. To everyone who has supported the GLO, please continue to do so whenever possible, thus ensuring that Kevin and Mary’s magnificent project will prosper and provide the love and comfort, safety, education and most of all, genuine hope for the future of the children that are so well cared for by all concerned at the GLO.
