Heading out into the wilds of Bolton on a windy September night to Rivington Barn was a doddle from our Ainsworth Home, unfortunately for Phil, Woody & the Kukri Team travelling from Southport in a double decker bus, it turned out to be just a little bit stressful but all arrived safe & sound to a wonderful location.
It was by a chance a meeting with Woody at a Cake Sale at Merchant Taylors School that brought the GLO to the forefront, again our brilliant supporters Eliot & Joanne Powell who actively promote our project had told Woody & Phil all about the orphanage and as Phil had spent many years as a child in Kenya, he decided to do the Iron Man Challenge with all proceeds going to the GLO, that amazing feat alone raised £1915.
Then as a family they did the 3 Peaks Challenge with the Powell Family. We felt very privileged when Woody & Phil choose the GLO again as one of their nominated charities to support along with Derian House, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and Alder Hey Hospital, a very special fund raising night was planned at Rivington Barn.
What a fantastic night, everyone entered the spirt & dressed appropriately and Woody led the proceedings arranging the dances along with a very experience ‘Caller” dressed in a kilt, very appropriate with Woody coming from Bonny Scotland. The hog roast went down a treat and the fantastic prizes donated by friends & business associate of Kukri Sports led to a very successful auction.
It was a pleasure to meet everyone, its is easy to see how Phil & Woody are so successful in their business as they are a wonderful caring couple and you could see how all the staff were so eager to help. Woody’s dance moves also made it a night to remember.
At the cheque presentation, a fantastic £1,800 raised, Mary explained to Woody that this money will cover the food and salaries for a month, so 56 children and 20 staff will have a wonderful December thanks to this donation, they will all have full tummies and you have to remember that the 20 staff often support extended families along with their immediate families so the possibility of a further 140 family members will also enjoy the fruits of this night !!!
