Well its been a busy few months, the preparation of the official school opening has taken up many hours but it has resulted in a very hardworking close team of staff at both St Bernadette & St Mary’s School and The GLO. What started off as a pretty low key affair became a major operation with over 700 people attending the opening and each class performing a little act to present to everyone.

We were even lucky enough to have Pat Watters come all the way from County Tyrone to build a special stand for our plaque

Mercy & Mama Mary oversee

When we returned in February the staff were unsure of what exactly what was expected from them but after a few meetings our stall was set out and we all went to work. First we employed Simon a local artist who is so talented, he started with our Mission Statement and then each classroom was decorated with a drawing that related to the work they are doing during the year. The gardens, compound and buildings were all checked over and everything was spick & span.

William & Kennedy prepare the gardens

Thanks to a very competent Dorothy and Mercy the catering was all sorted, 80kg of meat was bought and even a goat arrived all the way from Kilifi for the Offertory. George our multi talented Social Workers became the main co-ordinator of the day along with assistance from Mr Moses, Mr Vincent and our MC for the day Mr Sylvester. With everything in place we were ready to greet the many pupils, parents and guests to celebrate the opening of our wonderful new school
