Seeing a large bus pull up at the GLO made the children very excited. A group of students from St Mary’s Teacher Training College were trying to visit a nearby orphanage but could not gain access so decided to visit our project instead. These young students have formed a volunteers club within the college and work closely with charity projects in Bura, Taita, their hometown.

St Mary's Teacher Training College

They were very surprised with set up at The GLO, the adjoining Shamba and our new St Bernadette & St Mary’s School. They could not hide their desire to join us as volunteers and even working with this orphanage. The visit lasted for over two hours, they left with a promise to return and establish links between their volunteer club and our project.

The Volunteers Club

As well as spending time playing with the children, they also donated washing detergent, toothpaste, cooking oil, maize floor, clothes, among other things which were gratefully received by Madam Mercy & Madam Dorothy. We look forward to hearing from them in the near future as having volunteers from within Kenya is a very important part of our children’s development as learning about life outside the walls of the GLO will help them when they exit the project.
