Post from Helen Maguire:
After enthusiastically collecting sponsors, all the children at St. Bernard’s RC Primary School in Bolton participated in a fun ‘mini marathon’ on Friday 28th September before I went to run the real thing in Berlin on 30th. Thankfully the weather was kind and the children were able to complete their sponsored event; there were plenty of rosy cheeks at the end! A big ‘thank you’ to Mary who came along to say a few words about the GLO to the children-and ended up being roped into starting the run and turning her hand to a bit of marshalling too!
The following day I packed up my vaseline and jelly babies (the runners amongst you will understand!) and Damian and I headed for the German capital. Thousands of people mingled around the start area on the bright but chilly morning of the marathon, creating a bustling atmosphere full of excitement and nerves.
Proudly wearing my GLO top, and driven by the knowledge that I would be contributing in a small way to helping the GLO (of course the promise of a beer and bratwurst waiting for me at the finish line spurred me on too!) I managed to complete the Marathon in 4 hours and 10 minutes.
So a big thank you to everyone who sponsored either me, or any of the children at St. Bernard’s, with all the money raised going straight to this fantastic cause!
Note from Mary:  Well done and thank you Helen! To all our dear supporters please show your appreciation for Helen’s hard work & dedication and donate to her Just Giving Page , remember every single penny goes direct to The GLO. Thanks x
Well done Helen! Great time, looks like it was perfect weather for it too. See you soon Kevin and Sejal x
Congratulations, not only on your dedicated support but also reaching the finishing line. I am sure the medal, bratwurst and a beer was a great incentive, not necessarily in that order. Well down to the children on their fun run, lovely to know children are helping children.
Congratulations Helen :)!!! xxx
A great effort Helen. Well done.
Well done Helen. You did it for a great cause. The beer and bratwurst sounds like a very good incentive!
