My name is Amina Monje. I am 18 years old and I am the fourth born in a family of five children. I am a total orphan since both my parents passed away after a long period of illness, my mother has been dead for two years and my father passed away over five years ago, life is very difficult for us.

Amina

I originally went to school at Mtepeni Primary School but dropped out when I was in Class 7 due to lack of school fees, sadly I could not afford to return to complete my K.C.P.E Examinations. The only bread winner in our family now is our elder brother who works as a “boda boda” which is a local taxi, he too didn’t finish school which means he earns very little daily to support us all. Two of my siblings are still at school in Mtepeni but it is a struggle to pay the fees.

Amina's Home

We are now used to the challenges at home and my dream is to be able to help my young sibling once I finish my tailoring training and get a job. I heard the news about the vocational training at The Good Life Orphanage from one of our neighbours who has a child at St Bernadette Mary School. I went immediately to the office and met Madam Mercy & Valentine who advised me submit a letter to see if I could be accepted on the course.

I was very happy when I was informed that I am one of the lucky girls who secured a chance to learn to be a tailor. I thank God for this special chance in my life and also everyone involved with this project.
